Our children’s dreams and futures are not solely achieved through the accumulation of knowledge. Sometimes, deep contemplation about their major and career path is necessary, and this may require long-term planning over several years. There are times when tight and intensive study periods are needed, and repetitive learning practices might be necessary. Even when there are no visible improvements, there will be moments when we need to endure with faith for a long period of time.
Expecting our children to achieve all of this on their own can sometimes be an overly harsh expectation. Particularly, the environmental differences in the regions and schools where they study can be significant. In some cases, our children might become the proverbial “big fish in a small pond.” In such situations, they might restrict their own potential too quickly.
I have been a so-called “star instructor” who has guided the journeys of over 400 students admitted to Ivy League and other prestigious universities. I also had the fortune of successfully providing performance-oriented educational services at The Princeton Review.
Above all, I have been fortunate to share the most precious moments in the lives of our children over the past 15 years in the field. Now, as a father of a son and daughter who will walk the same journey, I have spent a long time thinking about what kind of education is truly necessary for my children. It is with these thoughts and experiences that I founded UPGRADE.
Parents often say, “It’s more effective when a teacher, rather than a book, tells the same thing to a child.” That’s right. People learn and change the most through other people.
We do not merely provide one-way transmission of knowledge. We offer an educational experience that brings about the fastest changes by pairing children with mentors who have walked similar paths and who are simultaneously realistic role models closest to the future they aspire to. Additionally, we leverage a curriculum and differentiated learning content that have been validated by over 15 years of accumulated data.
Through this, UPGRADE will not only improve(Up) our children’s grades(Grade) in the short term but also provide an experience that changes(Upgrade) their future in the long term.
