IB Predicted Score, how important is it?

What is the IB Predicted Score?

IB Predicted Scores are the scores that teachers predict for students in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program before they take their final exams. These scores are based on what they expect students to receive on their final exams.

If there is a GPA, why is there a Predicted score?

Predicted scores are teachers' predictions of future grades based on a student's current academic performance and future potential. Predicted scores are especially important for students in International Baccalaureate (IB) courses because colleges and universities use them to make admissions decisions before a student's final grades are available.

The Predicted score helps colleges predict whether a student will be successful in their IB coursework. This score is a trusted resource for university admissions officers because it reflects a student's attitude toward learning, engagement, and continued growth.

Universities that need to make admissions decisions before final grades are released also make conditional offers based on predicted scores. These conditional admissions are beneficial to both the college and the student, as the offer is finalized if the student actually achieves the predicted grade.

Predicted scores can also play an important role when applying for scholarships: students with high Predicted scores are more likely to receive scholarships.

Strategies for doing well on your Predicted score

  • Stay on track: The IB program requires continuous study and submission of assignments. It's important to study consistently and complete all assignments to maintain good grades.
  • Communicate with your teacher: Your Predicted score is based on your teacher's assessment, so you need to communicate well with your teacher. Actively participate in class and ask for help when you need it to improve your academic performance.
  • Active participation: Strive to make a good impression outside of class as well. Active participation in discussions, presentations, group projects, and more will make your teachers think more highly of your abilities.
  • Self-care: It's important to effectively manage academic stress and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Get enough sleep and eat a balanced diet to help you learn better.

IB Predicted scores play an important role in university admissions and academic performance assessment. Unlike GPA, Predicted scores are based on subjective assessments by teachers and can have a significant impact on university admission decisions and scholarship applications. Achieving a good Predicted score requires consistent study, communication with teachers, test preparation, active engagement, and self-management. With these strategies, students can be successful in getting into the colleges of their choice.
