Learn about recent changes in admissions trends and reforms to the system, and how you can prepare for them to succeed in U.S. college admissions.
Affirmative action is moving toward more minority preferences in admissions, but since minority doesn't include Asian, it's becoming harder to meet the SAT score threshold.
This year, we're also seeing the race box disappear from the Common Application and guidance to not reveal nationality or race in essays.
The key to getting into college is not your past history, but rather understanding the mission of the university and preparing in advance in a personalized way. For example, if you're interested in Brown University, this might include attending a pre-college summer camp to meet professors and build relationships. With a good understanding of the university, your essays will be easier to write, and you'll be able to showcase your passion for where you really want to go.
It's also important to have a roadmap for each grade level - we recommend participating in camps or research activities during the summer between grades, and the summer after junior year is especially important to start studying for the SAT early, as it will impact future grades.
