A comprehensive guide to Ivy League acceptance from A to Z

July 11, 2024

[24/03/16 Webinar Summary]

Learn the essays, ECs, competitions, and other strategies that helped me get into top Ivy League schools.

Essay differences between Ivy League schools

Each Ivy League school has its own unique talent profile, which means that the essay features they look for are slightly different. Princeton, for example, strongly favors essays that demonstrate a strong sense of scholarship, so students who have the talent to write a thesis tend to be highly regarded. It's also a good idea to learn about the types of essays each university prefers so that you can strategize accordingly, as Yale values artistry, such as a beautiful, fluid flow of writing.

Unusual admissions processes and requirements at US universities

Harvard University's admissions process considers SAT scores and GPA, but tends to favor uniqueness (e.g., life experiences, essays, etc.). Personal character is emphasized, and you should emphasize unique aspects of yourself in addition to the specs listed so far.
In the US, it is widely believed that interviews are not important, but in reality, a well-prepared interview can be the deciding factor for acceptance. In the case of Upen, the interview is conducted by an alumnus and takes into account your motivation for applying to Upen, your intention to attend, and more.
College admissions is like a 1,000-piece puzzle, and no matter how good 999 of the pieces are, it's not complete without "you." You need to express "you" through your personalized theme and unique essay.
